Make Head Lice History

When you are a parent, there are certain things that happen which are enough to send shivers down your spine. You don’t like to think of your children ever getting head lice, but it is something that is almost par for the course; these little bugs go almost hand in hand with childhood, and are synonymous with growing up. You’ll be hard pressed to find somebody who hasn’t ever had head lice at some point in their life, and some university/college students are finding it to be an unwelcome invasion when they start their first year of higher education and start living with different people. So just how to we help with the prevention of these unwanted parasites and make sure that everybody’s head remains completely clear?

Natural Remedies

A lot of lice have developed a resistance to over-the-counter repellents that are sold at pharmacies and chemists around the world, so more people are looking towards natural remedies to combat the critters. The one thing that you need to remember is that it’s quite easy to suffocate lice, but it takes a long time to do. Head lice can survive without breathing for a couple of hours, but if you are undertaking this process overnight then it shouldn’t affect anything that you or your children are otherwise doing apart from sleeping. You simply have to smother the head in olive oil or mayonnaise and pop a shower cap on to sleep in. A lot of people don’t like this method (who really likes going to bed with a head full of mayo?), but it has been proven to work to eradicate the lice. However, it doesn’t do much for killing the nits (eggs), so it’s not good for the long-term unless you follow it up.

Treatment Clinic

Let’s face it – we live in a very busy world. When we want something done, we want it done quickly and efficiently. That’s why there are lice treatment clinics such as available for you to go and get them eradicated in just one day. It’s recommended that you take not only your children, but everyone in the household to really make sure that they won’t be returning. Even if your head isn’t feeling itchy, it doesn’t mean that your head hasn’t already become host to a number of lice families. It’s better to be safe than sorry in this instance, so book in as soon as you can.

Sitting your child down and combing through the hair with a dedicated nit/lice comb is one of the best things that you can do. It’ll help you to determine the severity of the problem, meaning that you’ll be able to look for a solution more easily. If you’ve caught the lice at the start of the breakout then this is good news; you can easily find them and eradicate them. If there are more there than you know you can deal with, it’s time to take one of the previously mentioned steps.
